The small fleet of class 128 DMLV's (Driving Motor Luggage Vans) were once a common sight at the London end of the Western Region as well as around Manchester. Vehicle 55994 is seen here on 24/4/89 with its gangway plated over waiting to depart Reading with 4A17 the 16.20 London Paddington to Oxford parcels/mail working. To the observant yes its in a west facing bay platform to avoid occupying one of Reading's four busy through platforms. This working was booked to use platform 8 but frequently shunted to bay platform 7 during its station dwell time 17.13 to 17.22.
