An lecture underway on epicylic gearboxes at the British Railways Staff Training College at Derby circa June 1957. This was a centralised course open to more senior staff from all regions - from mechanical foremen and inspectors to assistant works managers and district motive power superintendents. The training of drivers and fitters was done at a series of local driving schools, one of which was also located at Derby, and with a mobile instruction train.
