In the May of 1972 we were lucky enough to go on a school field trip to Colwyn Bay, in my final few months at junior school :) Even luckier for me, the boarding house was a few yards from the North Wales coast main line! Class 40s galore in 1972! Unfortunately, I was still using my primitive Kodak Brownie which wasn't much use for action photos [see my attempted Class 40 shots in the Comments section below]. However, in this instance, it looks like the DMU was stationary! The driver's door is open so I'm guessing the train had been signal-stopped and he'd gone to phone the signalman! So sharp I can just make out the leading coach as M50454 :) The boarding house has been swept away by the A55 now.
