In its natural habitat, one of Bradford Hammerton Street Depot's BRCW Class 110 3-Car DMU's with Driving Motor Brake Composite (DMBC) E51809 at the rear, was stood in platform 14 at Manchester Victoria with a service to Bradford & Leeds on September 28th 1979. This view sums up the Manchester Victoria of old, oil soaked tracks and a mish-mash of platforms, buildings and canopies partly as a result of a visit by the German Luftwaffe on Christmas Eve 1940 when Manchester city centre was badly damaged including Victoria station. Most of the iron & glass overall roof was destroyed and never replaced.
