SC51540 was the rear car of the 08.05 Perth to Edinburgh on 31st December 1976 when it caught fire between Winchburgh and Bathgate Junctions. 25072 was sent out to shunt the formation into the loop there, and to haul the leading car - still with passengers aboard - to Waverley almost 2 hours late. 51540 was moved to Millerhill for storage where it is seen on 1st May 1977 with one of the stored class 24s in the distance. It was cut up on site here in early 1978.
