Clayton West, West Yorkshire 30th December 1982 The End of the Line at the 1879 Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Clayton West station. My dmu from Huddersfield had just arrived & I wasn't the only one taking photos. There was quite a contingent of enthusiasts, like myself, wanting to record the branch before final closure by BR 3 weeks later. Although both station building & dmu are no longer with us the site is still a railway terminus - for the narrow gauge Kirklees Light Railway. The 3.5-mile Lancashire and Yorkshire railway branch line to Clayton West from Shepley Junction was opened on 1 September 1879. It was closed on 24 January 1983.
