A 4-car South Yorkshire PTE - branded Class 101 diesel multiple unit sets off after its brief stop at Thorne North station on a Manchester - Hull service on 30 August 1976. The line from Thorne Junction on the Great Central Doncaster to Grimsby line to Straddlethorpe Junction on the Leeds to Hull line was opened in 1869 by the North Eastern Railway. Thorne North is the first station & Goole is the second and only other station on this section. My great-grandfather was a porter with the NER at Thorne North for 41 years until his retirement in 1921.
