In its last few months of operation, a BRCW Class 118 Suburban three-car DMU formed of cars 51320, 59482 & 51305 (463) was stood at Starcross with a Paignton to Exeter St Davids service on June 2nd 1989. Based at Plymouth Laira Depot, the set was one of a variety of first generation DMU's that had an extended period of operation in the West Country due to the Class 142 'Skipper' fleet being transferred to the North. The first generation units lasted until sufficient Class 150/2 Sprinters became available.
