These monumental wooden post semaphore signals stood guard over the northern approach to Royston Junction, on the former Midland main line section from Goose Hill Junction to Wath Road Junction. Seen from the adjacent road bridge, a Swindon three-car DMU approaches on what could be a route learning or inspection trip in May 1982. It will cross from up slow to up fast line just beyond the bridge. The down fast lines on the left were out of use at this time because of mining subsidence.
