Last Rites. The destination screen has been reset and 101 327 and 107 435 are ready for the final 19:01 departure from Kilmacolm. In addition to a wreath, a headboard has been hung on the lamp iron on the secondman’s side. The headboard reads ‘Class 126 Farewell to Kilmacolm’ and was prepared after the then Swindon Preservation Society asked BR to diagram the remaining two Class 126 sets on the Kilmacolm line for the final day. It was not to be, but 126 406 and 126 413 were seen on the main line at Elderslie earlier that day. However, images on Railcar show the two remaining Swindon Inter-City sets did work the branch during the week. All that was needed was a driver and guard to bring 114 years of railway history to an end. Saturday 08 January 1983
