Winter at Gravelly Hill. A first generation Class 116 dmu creeps into Gravelly Hill station, Birmingham, with a Four Oaks - Longbridge service on Sunday 22nd February 1981. For one academic year I travelled frequently by train between here and New Street station. My freezing cold, lonely student digs were just around the corner in Gravelly Hill North. Today, the "cross-city" line is electrified, and trains run between Lichfield and Longbridge, or between Four Oaks and Redditch. It wasn't until I'd viewed the scan large that I noticed the figures up there behind the bridge parapet. Brrrr!
