A Sheffield-bound DMU has just left Mexborough and is passing the site of Swinton Central station on an August evening in 1984. This section of line is now freight-only following the reinstatement of the Swinton chord enabling trains from Mexborough to reach the Midland main line directly. Above the DMU is the site of Mexborough steam shed and just beyond is where a chord diverged to join the line to Wath.
