Details

One of a series of images credited to the LMR Mechanical & Electrical Engineers Department at Derby recording the aftermath of the collision on Singleton Bank (near Weeton) where a six-car DMU excursion struck the rear of a stationary ballast train on 16 July 1961.

This is image 11, captioned "Debris of Driver's control. Lying under rear brake van frame of ballast train."

These will be from the vehicle leading in the collision, M50808, and recognisable are the vacumm brake control (handle in the 'off' position), the emergency brake, and two Sharps controls, one to the right of the brake controls (cams showing, the gear controller) and one to the left (spring under the handle showing, the throttle).
