For many years BR ran a weekday service to the private platform in Rosyth Naval Base. One train a day ran from Kirkcaldy to Inverkeithing in the morning where it disappeared from the public timetable and took dockyard workers down the otherwise freight only branch. One day in August 1980 I took this grab shot of the evening return working heading up the branch towards Inverkeithing where it would continue as a public working to Kirkcaldy. Other than railtours, it was possible to travel the branch once a year on the annual dockyard open day when BR ran 6 car specials from Edinburgh. Tracks are still in situ along this branch although heavily overgrown and disconnected from the main line.
