The weekend of 5/6 December 1987 saw the last semaphore signals between Leicester and Bedford replaced by colour light signals. I spent part of the Sunday around Wellingborough taking a few photos of the old gantries being removed etc, and got this photo of a 2-car Class 101 unit (Norwich set 87, 54080 visible) on a special working at Wellingborough. I think this unit was being used to transport signalling engineers around the area, and, from memory, I think the 2 chaps walking along the platform had just alighted from this dmu.
