In 1983 there was still a considerable amount of the South Wales industrial landscape to be seen. This is Trehafod and the headstocks are Lewis Merthyr colliery, it was once one of the most productive mines in the country. The colliery is now part of the Rhonda Heritage Park. The train is the 10.19 Treherbert - Barry service on 22/09/1983, at this time all Valley Lines services were formed of Cardiff based class 116 units.
