At Crewe open day on 22nd September 1979 Iris, the test coach was present. The unit was one of two that first saw service on the Banbury (Merton Street) to Buckingham trains, originally as M79900. Iris has become RDB 975010 and has "Train Control Group Research & Development Division, Derby" lettered down her sides. Happily the life extension as a test vehicle has seen Iris preserved.
