Looking towards the north end of Preston station there was not a lot to excite the traction enthusiast at 16.55 on 29th March 1980, just a lone 2 car class 108 DMU waiting for some custom. The station was built in 1880 jointly for the LNWR and the L&Y railways by engineer William Baker, because of demolitions and additions over the years it is not a listed building*. *Source: The Railway Heritage of Britain, Biddle & Nock 1983.
