Lowestoft station changed radically when the overall roof was removed in the early 1990s. Regional Railways 101653 pauses between services on 10 May 1993, now in the open air. The grand Victorian building behind the station on the left is the old Tuttles department store, part of which is now the Joseph Conrad Wetherspoons pub. The Regional Railways Met Cam DMUs moved from Crown Point depot in Norwich to Longsight in Manchester, ending their mainline use around 2000. DMBS 51426 (closest to the camera) was cut up after withdrawal, but DTCL 54358 was luckier, entering preservation.
