A class 101 Metro-Cammell unit glides into Castle Bromwich station sometime in 1963, as the destination blind is missing we have to speculate where it was going, it may have been Walsall via the Sutton Park line or Burton on Trent... Castle Bromwich station closure was a fine example of political stupidity, it was adjacent to the huge Castle Vale housing estate being built on the old aerodrome site next to it, this was to house the thousands of people displaced by slum clearance in Birmingham's Inner Ring. The station, had it remained open, would have had a huge catchment from the estate but no, the decision had been made and the station closed and all those people were destined to drive or crowd onto an inadequate bus service.
