Pottering along the main line at Smethwick is a Tyseley based class 116 DMU. The train is the 13.00 Stourbridge Junction to Birmingham New Street, these trains stopped at Smethwick West and continued to Birmingham along the congested Wolverhampton line. Today Smethwick West is a weed infested closed platform and the trains take the old GWR route through a new station at Galton Bridge. The next station along from Galton bridge is The Hawthorns and the floodlight towers of the WBA ground are visible to the left of the gasworks in this picture, a selection of EMU sets can be seen in the stabling point, the scene has disappeared behind a small forest now.
