A Class 101 passes Ouston Junction, Birtley, Co. Durham southbound down the East Coast Main Line in pre-electrification days, on 20/06/1983, with the 18:58 Newcastle-Durham local service. The trackwork to the right is the junction to the Consett steelworks: the original photographer remarked that track rationalisation was evident in this view.
