A Metro-Cammell 2-car set with E78959 leading passes major rebuilding work at Gilberdyke on the evening of 7th April 1988. This was a 2-car set which originally had four engines, now reduced to two. The quadruple track from Gilberdyke Junction to Melton Lane had been reduced to two running lines and the stations along the line were being shaped to fit. At both here and Broomfleet new platforms were being built over the old relief lines.
