Passing New Mills South Junction on the 18th April 1984 is a Hull Botanic Gardens (BG) based 1960 Swindon built class 124 Trans Pennine dmu with a Manchester Piccadilly-Hull Paragon service. These units were all taken out of service the following month and their duties taken over by class 31/4 locomotive hauled services.
