A view of the 'Marston Vale Line' from the hot summer of 1976. At Bedford St. Johns the main station buildings and water tower had been demolished by 1971 and it was a terminus halt on the truncated line to Cambridge, in a wide and desolate open space. In 1984 a replacement station was opened in the former freight yard at the north end of the triangle (above and to the right of the DMU), enabling services to continue to Bedford Midland. This station site was then abandoned and the site has now been reclaimed by nature. Photographer - Roy Burt.
