E56219 is the leading vehicle forming the last train at Tyne Commission Quay on 2nd May 1970 before closure two days later. This was the final train to Newcastle for passengers sailing to/from Norway. Connecting buses took over from this date. 'The Norseman' headboard was supplied by one of the numerous enthusiasts aboard, to commemorate the through train to Kings Cross of that name which had ceased running in 1966.
