One feature of many of the old 1st generation DMUs now sadly lacking with the new stock was the forward view, or as in this case, rearward view. Here the view out of the rear of class 116 no. 51143 is seen just after passing Lifford West Junction and just before arriving at Bournville on the way from Redditch to Birmingham New Street, 26/Jul/1991. Robert Chilton.
The 10.00 Cardiff (General) - Sheffield (Midland) is seen between Lifford & Kings Heath, Birmingham, on Sunday March 22, 1964. Formed of two Swindon Inter-City sets, the train was diverted due to engineering work between New Street and Selly Oak. Michael Mensing.

A Tyseley class 116 (set 324) approaches the signal for Lifford Junction on, what is now, the Cross City line. This is from the bridge at the entrance to Bournville park, In the background are part of the range of Cadburys buildings, also visible is Bournville signal box and the tall chimney lettered 'Join the Co-op'. The DMU has the road for Kings Norton, the signals on the right of the bracket govern access to Lifford curve and the Camp Hill line. Circa mid-1960s. Geoff Dowling.
