A dmu at Poulton-le-Fylde waiting to depart for Fleetwood on the the last day of passenger services between Poulton and Fleetwood, Saturday 30 May 1970. The sign in the left cab window indicates the Class 108 is Accrington allocated set 353 (DMBS M50982 and the DTCL is presumably M56265). Ian 10B Collection.

28th January 1980

On a warm June 28th 1980 with the train crew looking on, a six-car BRCW Class 104 'White-Liner' DMU was stood at Poulton-Le-Fylde with a Blackpool North to Manchester Victoria service. Driving Motor Composite Lavatory Car M50530 was leading the formation. Standard fare along the Manchester-Blackpool route from the late 1960's until around 1982, they were part of the large allocation of 104's at Newton Heath Depot. The well-worn sets were replaced by Swindon Class 120's cascaded from various parts of the country, a temporary measure until the new Class 150/2 Sprinter fleet appeared in sufficient quantities. A Cravens Class 105 Power-Twin with Driving Motor Composite Lavatory car M50807 leading, was coupled to a 3-Car BRCW Class 104 set, stood at Poulton-Le-Fylde with a Blackpool North to Manchester Victoria service on June 28th 1980. Martyn Hilbert.

A Class 108 DMU alongside a derailed oil tanker at Poulton-le-Fylde on Thursday 24 December 1981. The previous evening the 16:15 departure from Manchester Victoria collided with this oil train which had a class 47 locomotive on it. Ian 10B.

A pair of Swindon Cross Country DMUs approach Poulton Le Fylde with the 14:45 Blackpool North – Manchester Victoria service on Saturday 13th August 1983. Note that the train displays a “Man Piccadilly” destination! The rear vehicle was one of the ScR DMBF conversions. Brian McDevitt.
