A Class 101 DMU at South Gosforth East Junction, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, 13/10/1976. This was the 12:25 departure from Newcastle to Newcastle via the coast, travelling in a clockwise direction around the North Tyneside circuit. These British Rail services gave way to the Tyneside Mero system a few years after this view. Graeme Phillips Collection.
On 28/08/1977, in BR days, a Class 101 calls at South Gosforth, Newcastle with 0835 Newcastle-coast-Newcastle, nearing its destination. On the opposite platform, the Tyneside Metro control centre building is under construction, pending conversion of this and other routes to that light rail system. Graeme Phillips Collection.
On 13/10/1976 a 3-car class 101 is seen approaching South Gosforth station with the 11:35 Newcastle-Newcastle circular around the North Tyneside loop. Derby Lightweight vehicles E79150 and E79402 at South Gosforth on 15 August 1970. Both vehicles were from the four-car NER sets and would be cut up at the depot in July 1971. At the rear of the siding is a blue Cravens vehicle. David Mant.
