A suburban triple set in Cheltenham station, date unknown. The curved headcode box means it's a 118 or an early 117, the set number looks like if could be B462. From March 1976 this was formed 51304 + 59471 + 51319. W51304 being one of the 118s without marker lamps - these were fitted to it by March 1980 - so this was probably late 1970s. Phillip Malin.

Laira Class 118 set P480 (W51312 + W51327) at Gunnislake on 1 May 1979. This is the end of the line, the continuation to Callington where I am standing having long since closed. In fact what you see here has all now been redeveloped and the branch cut a few hundred yards shorter out of sight to the right of my shot. Alistair Ness.

On a hazy and warm Summer afternoon, a Class 118/117 hybrid three-car Suburban DMU formed of cars W51328, W59509 & W51313 was stood in the single track terminus at Exmouth with a service to Exeter St Davids on July 28th 1979. The station at the East Devon seaside resort once had four platform faces and was a busy place on Summer Saturdays in the past, including through services to and from London Waterloo. The Southern Railway upgraded the station in 1924, and one of the disused island platforms with its substantial canopy was just visible to the left of the DMU. This has now been swept away, and a road that was constructed in 1981 now runs alongside the station. Martyn Hilbert.
Cardiff Central on my day trip of Monday 6th August 1979. On the right is Class 116 BR Derby Suburban set C333, W51148 + W59445 + W51135 which had arrived on the 09.17 Penarth - Cardiff and was about to leave as the 09.45 to Merthyr. On the left, still in all over blue is Class 118 BRCW set B468 W51310 + W59471 + W51325 which had come in on the 08.25 from Gloucester. It was attached to Met Cam Class 101 set B801 (W51446 + W 59547 + W51517) after this shot was taken and then worked the 09.55 to Weston-Super-Mare. Gerard Fletcher.

Sadly I had very mixed weather for my Railrover tour of the West Country in 1979. Here, Dawlish Warren is covered in grey cloud as a stopping train to Exeter pulls up at the station on 2nd September. An interesting assortment of station buildings can be seen and one of them housed the South Devon Railway Museum which was always worth a visit. Set P464 is presumably 51306 + 59473 + 51321. Syd Young.
