DMU Accident

Castleton - 27/05/64

In the late afternoon a down Calder Valley train, the 5.35pm Victoria-Halifax, suffered a fire at Castleton station.  It was extinguished in the platform and the unit removed into the yard at Castleton by steam loco 46439.

There is some confusion over the date, it may have been on the 30th May not the 27th!

These photos are from Richard S Greenwood. The trains was a six-car set, at the front a Newton Heath set with, unusually, a Cravens DMBS standing in for a BRC&W power car (clearly seen in the second image). The rear set was a Neville Hill set.
