Black on white, fabric blind. London Midland Region, Midlands area, prior to absorbtion of Western Region. There are no GWR destinations (apart from LEAMINGTON, which LMR units would have reached from Coventry) and it has not been thought necessary to specify which station in Birmingham the DMU is going to. NEWCASTLE would be Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire.
Paul Williams notes: "In the 1950s the Stoke - Market Drayton line was cut back to Silverdale. The line from Silverdale to Stoke was then also closed in 1964 or 1965, can't recall off the top of my head; but I believe that a few trains for workmen continued to use the line as far as Newcastle for a while longer, dating the blind quite accurately to around this time."
