A very smart looking Metro-Cammell unit freshly repainted into the final NSE livery with black cab window surrounds. West Ealing station had also just been refurbished, complete with fancy tiles and a not too informative clock! The vehicle numbers for set L840 were 53311, 59117 and 53322. Chris McKee.
Despite living by the Reading-Tonbridge line when WR dmus took over the service, I only ever got this one picture of a Metro-Cammell Class 101 dmu. The Class 101s were intended to be the replacements for the Tadpoles, and one appeared on the 07:44 Tonbridge-Redhill a few times in "corporate blue" days, but they were found to be unsuitable from the outset and were covered by other types until the Class 119s arrived. This picture was taken much later, about 10 years after the changeover, and shows a 101 leaving Guildford for Reading. Tony Watson.
