Swindon Cross Country set EP519 (M50651 + M59290 + M50736) with a charter from Burton in York station on June 11, 1982. John Carter.
53651 emerges from the short tunnel that takes it from Princes Street Gardens into Edinburgh Waverley. The Met-Camm centre car is presumably 59124. Taken in 1986. S Saunders.
1986 saw a welcome return of Swindon DMUs to Ayrshire in the form of an influx of Cross Country Units. Most of the Swindon units had received Metro Cammel centre cars. Here 53651 (formerly of Derby Etches Park set 519, and appears to have a broken window mid-vehicle) and 53648 are seen at the magnificent Ayr station. Andrew McConnell.
529 on the 1245. Class 120 motor second 53651 still displays the remains of old set number EP519 but it is now officially in set 529 with 59124 (101) and 53736. Seen passing North Woodhill farm near Kilmarnock with the 1245 Glasgow Central to Kilmarnock. Bruce Galloway.
53651-59124-53736 Edinburgh Haymarket 07.07.1986 Martin Baumann.
Railtour. Looking east as BLS six car DMU approaches Old Kilpatrick on the remains of the Caledonian's Lanarkshire & Dunbartonshire route. The former Admiralty oil storage tanks were served by a siding behind the building on the far right but was long out of use at that time. The leading Set is a Class 120 (with MC centre car) 53651+59124+53736 and the trailing Set is a Class 116 (with 120 DMS) 53673+59374+53090. Saturday 23 August 1986. alicia hartman.
Distant Past. Looking east at Old Kilptrick with a six car BLS DMU Railtour in the background. Swindon Class 120 DMS 53651 is leading. Patrons walk towards the buffer stop and what was effectively the headshunt for the oil sidings. The buffer stops were short of the former Caledonian L & D station. Oil traffic probably ceased in the late seventies. EE 350 hp shunters would propel tank wagons into the oil sidings on the right then propel back to Dalmuir Riverside for rounding. Saturday 23 August 1986. alicia hartman.
53651 + 59124 + 53736 / 53673 + 59374 + 53090 during the Gunnie Cement Works (Coatbridge) stop of the Branch Line Society "The Clyde Forth" railtour on 23 August 1986. Brian Ward.

The Branch Line Society 'Clyde-Forth' railtour is seen at Menstrie on the freight only branch from Cambus Junction to Glenochil Distillery and yeast factory at Menstrie on August 23, 1986. Formed of two hybrid 3-car sets, 120/101 53651+59124+53736 and 116/120 set 53673+59374+53090 trailing. This line was once a passenger branch from Cambus Junction near Alloa to Alva but lost its service on 01/11/1954. It was retained as a freight branch initially to Alva but the section beyond Glenochil Distilley to Alva closed on 24/02/1964. The branch to Menstrie was retained for inbound grain and molasses traffic but only generated wagon load flows. It was a victim of the demise of the Speedlink wagon load network disbanded by BR in July 1991 and fell into disuse thereafter. Adrian Nicholls.
The Branch Line Society "The Clyde Forth" tour at South Leith on 23 August 1986. It is formed 53651 / 59124 / 53736 + 53673 / 59374 / 53090, the train running about an hour late at this time. Alan Rintoul.
