A Western Region publicity image (negative T88-228-17) - sadly a little water damaged - showing refurbished Class 116 DMU set C335 (presumably 51153 + 59032 + 51140) at Llanishen, circa mid-to-late 1978, heading to Rhymney. Image courtesy of Diesel Unit Preservation Associates. British Rail.
C335 (presumably 51153 + 59032 + 51140) arrives into Aber station on 22/5/1980 where it will terminate. At the time it was a terminating station for certain peak hour services from Cardiff due to a lack of turnaround facilities at the obvious destination, the previous station at Caerphilly. Stephen Burdett.
Class 116 DMU set C335 (presumably 51153 + 59032 + 51140) at Cardiff Bute Road on July 17, 1981. This station is now named Cardiff Bay and the whole area has been the subject of major regeneration. In 1981, clearly nobody cared. Jeremy Chapter.

Class 116 51153, set number T407 is seen at Tyseley on 18.10.1992. It had been transferred from Cardiff and is seen as part of a scratch set with an NSE liveried Class 119 centre car (presumably 59416). When transferred up from Cardiff they came as 2 cars and Tyseley added any available centre car. Andy Cole.
On 2 June 1979 a class 116 DMU (51140/59032/51153) arrives at Birchgrove station with the 07.00 Coryton-Cardiff service. Lewis Bevan.
A Class 116 dmu (set C335, presumably 51140 + 59032 + 51153) in Cardiff Bute Road on July 17, 1981. It seems incredible that this was an open station one mile from Cardiff Queen Street in the Welsh capital's centre. Even more incredible is the fact that nowadays there are 5 trains an hour here. In 1981 the train crew are sitting on the platform contemplating the squalour (and probably having a smoke). Jeremy Chapter.

The Monmouthshire Railway Society "DMU Demise" railtour is seen in the abandoned Swansea Docks High Level Reception Yard part of the once extensive King's Dock Yards complex on September 26, 1992. This was the last MRS railtour to deploy a DMU and seating was limited for the fact the remaining 3-car class 116 DMU sets based at Cardiff Canton had been reduced to power twins mostly for use on the Cardiff to Aberdare line and only five set survived by this date. Sets C392 (51134+51147) and C395 (51140+51153) were used on the tour and they only remained in traffic a few more months before all the Cardiff based 116 DMUs were withdrawn. The railtour was advertised to proceed onto ABP (Associated Britsh Ports) tracks from Burrows Junction as far as King's Dock Communication Bridge East Ground Frame in Swansea Docks but this was as far as the BR inspector deemed safe to take the train on what were disused tracks. Adrian Nicholls.
