Thorne North, South Yorkshire, 8th June 1978. The line from Thorne Junction (on the Great Central Doncaster to Grimsby line) to Straddlethorpe Junction (on the Leeds to Hull line) was opened in 1869 by the North Eastern Railway. Thorne North is the first station & Goole is the second and only other station on this section. We were waiting for a train to Doncaster on the Up platform when this diesel multiple unit on a Hull service entered the Down.
