Complete with its West Yorkshire MetroTrain PTE branding, Manchester Longsight Set L0241 was stood at Hooton with the 12.08 to Chester on a damp February 25th 1993. The nearest car was Class 101 Driving Motor Brake Second E53202, the other is a Class 108. The set was one of many to get an extended lease of life and a shuffle from one side of the Pennines to the other to cover for the then ailing and unreliable almost new Class 142 Pacer fleet. The third rail from Rock Ferry along the former LMS/GWR main line was extended to Hooton in 1985, with a DMU providing a connection at Hooton for the eight mile run to Chester. The third rail was eventually extended from Hooton to Chester in 1993.
