Class 101 DMU at Manchester Victoria

11th July 1992

On a dull Saturday evening of 11th July 1992 53202 stands at the rear of a four car set in platform 12 at Manchester Victoria, the other vehicles being 52059+53926+54050. Not a particularly good picture but it records one of the Manchester area parliamentary services that operated at this time, this one being the 20:10 Manchester Victoria - Ashburys. Ian Hazlehurst.

Class 101 DMU at Manchester Victoria

16th July 1992

Longsight class 101 set LO241 formed DMBS E53202 and DTCL E54050 arriving at Manchester Victoria. The vehicles still retained their 'E' prefices and Metrotrain logos from their earlier allocation to Leeds Neville Hill, and 53202 also still appears to bear a Norwich set number '70'. Robert Chilton.

Class 101 DMU at Hooton

25th February 1993

Complete with its West Yorkshire MetroTrain PTE branding, Manchester Longsight Set L0241 was stood at Hooton with the 12.08 to Chester on a damp February 25th 1993. The nearest car was Class 101 Driving Motor Brake Second E53202, the other is a Class 108. The set was one of many to get an extended lease of life and a shuffle from one side of the Pennines to the other to cover for the then ailing and unreliable almost new Class 142 Pacer fleet. The third rail from Rock Ferry along the former LMS/GWR main line was extended to Hooton in 1985, with a DMU providing a connection at Hooton for the eight mile run to Chester. The third rail was eventually extended from Hooton to Chester in 1993. Martyn Hilbert.

Class 101 DMU at Chester

25th February 1993

In the days before electrification, a Class 101/108 hybrid two-car DMU with a scabby-looking ex Eastern Region Class 101 E53202 at the rear, was stood in platform 7 at Chester with a service to Hooton on February 25th 1993. E53202 still retained its Norwich set '70' in one of the cab windows. The unit was one of many life-expired First Generation DMU's kept in service to provide cover for the then problematic Class 142 fleet. Martyn Hilbert.

Class 108 DMU at New Mills South Junction
