Following the final day of the three-day Rocket 150 Cavalcade at Rainhill on Monday 26th May 1980, and with the crowds gone, an 8-Car DMU lash-up on one of the frequent shuttle services from Manchester Victoria, consisting of a Class 115 suburban set an a pair of two-car Class 108's, were passing one of the grandstands being prepared for dismantling. The leading car was Rail Blue liveried Class 115 Driving Motor Brake Second M51860. The Morris Marina Van in the right foreground was belonging to the company that had installed the PA system for the commentary (done by Alan Pegler) during the cavalcade.
