Complete with its oil tail lamp still in position, a refurbished liveried Class 108 two-car DMU formed of cars E50605 & E56199 was stood at Ilkley with a service for Leeds on August 9th 1980. The station still retained its 1950's BR North Eastern Region enamel signage in Tangerine and was also gas-lit. Complete with his shopping in a bag, the driver is walking towards the cab. On the extreme right of this view, where the hole-in-the-wall is located, were once the through platforms in the days when Ilkley was on the route to Skipton via Addingham and Bolton Abbey, the western end of which now forms the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway. The line beyond Ilkley closed in 1965.
