Derby Suburban Set 387 approaches Kilmaurs station from the south on a Kilmarnock - Glasgow working. The section from Kilmarnock to Barrhead was singled circa 1973/4 (save for a passing loop at Lugton) and the former double track formation is evident here. Kilmaurs was closed in 1966 but the station had re-opened that day under the auspices of Strathclyde PTE. Frequencies were subsequently increased to half hourly many years later in 2009 with the construction of a 5.5 mile dynamic loop (further north) between Lugton and Stewarton. Saturday 12 May 1984.
