The loneliness of the long-distance railcar (with apologies to Alan Sillitoe, Tom Courtenay and others for the title.) A first generation diesel multiple unit leaves Tywyn on the Cambrian coast with an up service on Sunday 7th July 1974. The viewpoint is the Neptune Road bridge and on the left the narrow gauge tracks of the Talyllyn Railway, which terminates here, are clearly visible. It's a long formation (nine or ten vehicles), the closest five or six vehicles are Class 101s, the cab facing us has a Tyseley set number so is a three-car, the vehicles at the far end have different roof vent alignments so are different types.
