A Class 101 DMU departs Springburn with the 13:59 service to Cumbernauld on Friday 18th June 1982. Passengers from central Glasgow and further afield will have arrived in the adjacent Class 303 EMU. With the closure of Buchanan Street station in 1966, direct services between Glasgow and Cumbernauld ceased, there being no direct route from Cumbernauld to Queen Street. Consequently, a shuttle service was provided between Cumbernauld and Springburn to provide a connection into and out of the electric services to and from Queen Street Low Level station. A through service to Queen St high level was eventually reinstated in 1989, initially reversing at Eastfield until the Cowlairs chord opened in 1993. Nowadays, the line to Cumbernauld has been electrified and it is possible to catch trains to both Queen Street (High Level and Low Level) and Glasgow Central (Low Level).
