Still retaining West Midlands PTE branding on the outer end of the driving car, a Class 116/101 three-car hybrid DMU formed of cars M53872, M59528 & M53862 formed as Newton Heath allocated set N362, was awaiting departure from the staggered platform layout at Hoscar in West Lancashire with a Southport to Manchester Victoria service on May 14th 1988. The set was disbanded soon after this image was recorded, 53872 was withdrawn in June 1988, 59528 lasted in service until July 1988 whilst 53862 survived until October 1988. All three cars were subsequently scrapped by Berry's of Leicester.
