A Class 101/108 hybrid two-car DMU formed of cars 53248 & 53637 (873) was departing from Starcross with an Exeter St Davids to Paignton service on May 30th 1989. The set was one of several cobbled together first generation DMU's that had been sent to Plymouth Laira following the transfer of the 'Skipper' Class 142 fleet to the North. The set was withdrawn whilst at Laira in 1991 following the arrival of some Class 150/2 Sprinters.
