With 'Lancaster' on its destination blind, Former Eastern Region/West Yorkshire PTE Class 108 DMU formed of cars 53606 & 54196 was passing Lodge Lane Crossing at Farington with an Ormskirk to Preston service on May 7th 1988. The two-car set had been transferred from Hull Botanic Gardens to Newton Heath in the period when surviving first generation sets were covering for the then ailing Class 142 fleet. Having traversed Farington Moss from Midge Hall, the 108 was about to descend the gradient towards the WCML at Farington Curve Junction.
