It was a freezing day when we got off the 09.32 Sheffield - Manchester at Edale on 23 January 1984, formed of 78968 + 78718, and with a defiant exhaust rasp and a cloud of smoke we were in the fog and snow of the winter Hope Valley all alone on the platform. The signaller has his stove going well to judge by the vertical column of smoke in the still frosty air.
