A Class 111 DMU - leading seems to be E50137 - is seen near Burley in Wharfedale with Bradford on the destination blind on 3 July 1977. Michael Mensing.
25th October 1977
A 2-car Class 114 DMU (vehicles 56047 + 50030) calls at Edale working the 12.20 Sheffield-New Mills on 25 October 1977. The 2 vehicles had a long working life on BR. 50030 was new (to 40A Lincoln) on 24 January 1957, and was withdrawn from TS Tyseley on 4 October 1987. It was scrapped at MC Metals, in Glasgow. 56047 was new (also to 40A) on 17 April 1957 and was withdrawn from TS on 4 October 1989. It is now preserved on the Strathspey Railway. Lewis Bevan.

Edale is a lovely place to be and combined with a railway line with traditional infrastructure it was unbeatable. Class 123 52096 is the leading car on the 12.10 Cleethorpes to Manchester train on 1st April 1983. Geoff Dowling.

It was a freezing day when we got off the 09.32 Sheffield - Manchester at Edale on 23 January 1984, formed of 78968 + 78718, and with a defiant exhaust rasp and a cloud of smoke we were in the fog and snow of the winter Hope Valley all alone on the platform. The signaller has his stove going well to judge by the vertical column of smoke in the still frosty air. Geoff Dowling.

Speeding past the small station at Edale on 28/01/1984 is 51952, the leading car of the 08.20 Hull to Manchester train, the last two digits '52' appear on the front car, useful when blinded by snow! Geoff Dowling.

As fine snow fell and the sky became more leaden we did wonder about getting home again. No point in worrying so a photograph of 52102 leading the 10.45 Manchester - Cleethorpes was taken as it approached Edale station in the gathering gloom on 28/01/1984. Geoff Dowling.
