E50225 and E56388 pass Bensham, Gateshead with a service from the Tyne Valley line heading into Newcastle on 05/03/1983. They are about to head into a tunnel under the East Coast Main Line. Norwood Coking Plant, the site of which became part of the Gateshead Garden Festival seven years later in 1990, can be seen in the background.
