E50225 and E56388 pass Bensham, Gateshead with a service from the Tyne Valley line heading into Newcastle on 05/03/1983. They are about to head into a tunnel under the East Coast Main Line. Class 101 cars E56388 + E50225 at Scotswood, Newcastle heading westbound with a service for Haltwhistle on 14/05/1982. This section of track was closed on 04/10/1982, from which time all Tyne Valley trains travelled over the former freight lines via Norwood Junction - maintenance costs of the Scotswood Bridge were a major deciding factor in the closure of this section.
